The sun shines today also……..
When we stand in fields of flowers, wild delight runs through us. This place is both childlike and yet much greater than us. Bees and flowers making both life and life joy. A spoon of honey, a children’s story book, the jubilant haze of cornflowers and poppies on a summers day.
Pollen comes from this simple yet incredibly complex place. A joyous colour indeed, but also a colour I made to gently remind us that we need bees to live, and bees need us. A lifelong partnership of common care and responsibility to each other. As the sun shines, and we plan and plant, think and live, we can find ways to provide for both us and our common land. Planting wildly in both form and energy, is to bring culture to nature and by building our personal patches of nature, we build a much more beautiful world.
When I make a colour, it starts with deep research. A person, a place – sometimes a sense of communal change starts the journey from early thought, to final formula and then complete colour. Pollen comes from a walk I took, across a deeply urban suburb in London. What could have been uncomfortably hard, was in fact fizzy – streets and scrubby patches filled with wild and riotous planting. Joyful – perhaps more so, because I didn’t expect a wild meadow waving under a mountain of tower blocks. That first walk is rooted in my mind and I visit these streets when I can.
People chose to build and plant this ribbon of roads for themselves, their communities, and their tiny corner of London.
And yes, it was full of bees, but also full of promise.
Pollen I hope brings you promise and possibilities. A happy nod to the joy of flowers, bees and living…
