Atelier Ellis Unfurls The Garden Party: Twelve Bountiful and Productive New Colours

1st March 2024

A fulsome, seasonal tableau. Gathering, turning and swaying from Spring’s rise through Autumn’s rich decline. A gentle revelry of the living and the still.

This Spring, Atelier Ellis, makers of beautiful, breathable bio-based paint, breathe life into a new collection of twelve colours, including a new neutral family of five.

With Katherine Mansfield as our muse, Cassandra Ellis, colourist and founder of Atelier Ellis, has imagined the new palette harness feminine energy, flora and the beauty of still life. A collection rich with useful and liveable colours, from a family of fresh whites through to soft and saturated greens and beautifully useful earth tones. Highlights include Lunching Ladies, inspired by faded pink silk tea dresses; and Mollie – a deep and optimistic green. Growing from Spring bulbs, deep earth and soft greens to the last of the Autumn flowers and saturated light. These are colours and paint that are entirely at ease in homes and surrounding humans.

The Colours

Sunday Suppers – simple, balanced and a perfectly easy, everyday colour.

Bread & Butter – buttery crumbs as a colour.

Axia – a capable and valuable damson-hued brown.

Hazy – late afternoon blue skies in July.

Lily Lawn – soft and earthy green. Perfect in humble, grand and everywhere-in-between homes.

Mollie – a deep and optimistic green – just like our Mollie.

Lunching Ladies – of faded pink silk chiffon tea dresses.

Parviflora – floral joy with mellow, magenta-hued undertones.

The Naïf family – a fresh and calm family of five.

The Garden Party palette debuts at Atelier Ellis’ townhouse on Bath’s famed Walcot Street on 22nd April. Ever evolving and developing its palette until October 2024, it will reflect the seasonal change and follow the rhythms of the flowers grown in the company allotment.

Visitors will find the twelve new colours across each of the four floors of the store, bathing the walls in their gentle beauty, carefully mixed in their unique bio-based paint. Formulated to be fully breathable and virtually VOC- free, Atelier Ellis’ deeply pigmented colours are hand-mixed in store and in their factory nearby using the highest quality materials.

Notes to Editors

Atelier Ellis makes beautiful, breathable, bio-based paint to help people tell the story of their home. Founded by Cassandra Ellis in 2018, Atelier Ellis is a human-scale business that looks for reminders of humanity in everything they do.

An independent maker of colour, Atelier Ellis formulates, produces, and sells their exceptional quality paint from their Somerset factory and Bath townhouse store. The paint collection reflects a new classicism that is neither minimalist nor traditional. Embracing a gracefully joyful aesthetic, the 120 unique colours are deeply rooted in the natural world, as well as personal memories, marks, and fragments.

Inspired by the way we live in nature, in cities and society, the distinctive shades are designed to create quiet, joyful backdrops to people’s homes and lives, helping them tell their unique stories of home in the way they choose. The water based, deeply pigmented colours create safe and beautiful homes.

In Spring 2024, Atelier Ellis elevated their True Matt Emulsion to a unique bio–based formula.

The new, renewable binder is created from bio-based materials including vegetable oil produced from waste, castor oil, linseed oil, sugar and bio ethanol. It improves both the materiality and performance of our already exceptional quality, virtually VOC free and fully breathable paint. It is exceptionally matt and clean smelling. Suitable for lime and gypsum plaster, it is washable and safe for all rooms, including kitchens, bathrooms and children’s spaces. It doesn’t need specialist primers and can be used as its own mist coat, removing the need for hybrid products.
